Hello again and welcome back to my blog. The day have finally arrived for the launch of the new Alpha Laboratoriew web site. I have been working on the project for 6 months and can honestly say the finished site is well worth a look. With lots of product information and easy ordering facilities it far exceeds the information available on the old site and those of many of the companies competitors. So please spare a few moments and let me know what you think.
Back to the topic of this blog 'Tips for a Greener Lab'. Well not a lot has been happening as I have been busy with the new web site but now I have a bit more time I will be keeping you posted on all the latest developements in the world of green issues in the laboratory environment. So again let me have your comments for posting and we can get some discussions going.
Thanks
Sarah

March has arrived!
Hi everyone. Well March has finally arrived, spring is in the air and christmas seems a long time ago. It's traditionally the time of year for a good clear out, wether at home or at work, but don't forget to recycle, reuse or reduce. With this in mind I have been trawling the web trying to come up with some resorces to help you create a greener laboratory. I have so far come up with some interesting and hopefully useful sites. Let me know if you do find anything of particular interest or if you know of anything you would like to share.
- BluSci have an entry called How Green is Your Lab? written by Dr Joanna Baxter
- I also found The Green Laboratories Manual by Dylan Gwynn-Jones and many more of Aberystwith University.
- And finally a briefing paper from HEEPI - Sustainable Laboratories for Universities and Colleges - reducing Energy and Environmental Impacts

February's notes
Hi again. It's nice to know some people have been viewing my blog even though I haven't advertised it or really got it up and running properly yet.
Well now we are over the worst of the winter weather the news has once again turned back to the state of the economy and the worsening banking crisis. But even in these tougher times we must keep our eye on the green ball. Even with the price of fuel and consumer goods coming down its good to see the resurgence of interest in growing our own food. This has resulted in even the national trust putting aside land for allotements in conjunction with Landshare and with spring just around the corner now is the time to start planning your urban farm.
But time to get back to work and green tips for your laboratory. Please let me have any information on what you are doing to reuse, recycle and repair in your lab. I look forward to reading all your ideas.

Editors Comments
Hi Everyone.
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog. The idea behind this was that everyone in their own lab's are all doing different things to help improve our environment and as scientists we are the ones who should lead new environmental initaitives. So here we can all share our thoughts and best practices on environmentail issues. Please feel free to let the world know what you are doing to reduce your carbon footprint or just generally lessen your impact on the world.
But I'd also like to have a bit of fun as well so have started a caption competition. Each week I hope to be able to provide a new picture for your comments. Please free to send your own pictures in, as I may run short.
Well here's to a successful resource for everyone to use and add to in 2009 and the coming years.
Here are some links you may find useful.
